There Are No Guarantees

Opinion Piece: By Jonathan Primo Fuego Galicia, CFO

Every investor wants a guarantee. I want a guarantee. When I go to a doctor or a lawyer, I would love a guarantee that the doctor’s treatment or the lawyer’s advice is going to work every time. But sadly, that isn’t the case. If I give you indicators, systems, and your success depends on the weakest link in the chain, as I’ve indicated in other writings, which is you. One of the things my vast experience has taught me is that no matter how good a system or method may be, investors or traders will often find ways to abuse, modify, or misuse them, whether consciously or unconsciously.

The result of such misuse is usually erosion of capital into financial loss. Misuse of methods and systems creates confusion and a lack of direction. Confusion and lack of control, of course, create losses. Losses undermine confidence. Lack of confidence gives growth to a lack of discipline. Lack of discipline leads to further losses. Although I would love to provide you with guarantees, I can’t and won’t do that. Perfection isn’t possible when dealing with fallen people. I will, however, tell you that the methods are well worth the time you devote to studying and implementing them each day.
